The opportunity has come to bring Capital Bikeshare to the Columbia Pike corridor. Bike Arlington seeks “input from citizens, businesses and organizations to ensure that the service expands and operates in a way that best serves Arlington. There are lots of ways to get involved, including a series of public input meetings and online input.”
You can suggest a station online via the Crowdsourcing map here. There are numerous locations around the Pike, but please vote for stations both near your home and your potential destinations.
To bring this to a reality, please mention to your building manager, your condominium association, your neighborhood association, your neighbors, the CPRO and most importantly to any of the local businesses you frequent: ask them to tell Bike Arlington that Capital Bikeshare is a critical to putting Pike neighborhoods and business on the map!
The meeting schedule is as follows:
Thursday, March 29th
George Mason University – Arlington Campus
3351 North Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Virginia, 22201
7:00 – 9:00 pm
The second public meeting will provide the public an opportunity to learn about the results of the CaBi TDP. It will be held on:
Wednesday, June 27th
Arlington County Central Library Auditorium
1015 North Quincy Street, Arlington, VA 22201
6:30 – 8:00 pm
Even if you own your bike or would never use the service, for those of you desperate for a chain coffee shop or a hardware store, or merely hoping that local businesses you enjoy stay open and thriving, having these stations in communities along the Pike will make all of these changes more likely. Please, act. It’s free and pretty easy!

Done. An excellent idea. CABI is highly influenced by the number of votes for stations. The Map they use for suggestions is very easy to use. Just find Columbia pike, and vote for every station on Columbia Pike. Putting CABI on Columbia pike would be brilliant — and CABI has got to be something more than just for the wealthy Clarendon corridor and the Crystal City area.
I totally agree and voted and tried to spread the word, but, I struggle a little bit with encouraging an unaware rider to ride from Pentagon City up Columbia Pike. Not sure they would know what they’re getting into. Orange line to Columbia Pike would be fine.
